56-vuotias Steve Stricker jäi ilman major-voittoja aktiiviurallaan. Champions Tourilla hän on voittanut jo kuusi majoria, yhteensä 14 kisaa. Viimeisin uroteko on 53 perättäistä kierrosta alle parin.
Steve Stricker pelaa viikonloppuna kotiosavaltiossaan Wisconsinissa PGA Champions Tourin kisaa. Ensimmäisen kierroksen tulos 6 452 metriä pitkällä University Ridge Golf Clubin kentällä oli hurja, 65,-7.
Stricker jakaa toista sijaa, Justin Leonard ( 62,-10) oli perjantain tähti.
Stricker ylitti kuitenkin merkittävän rajapyykin. Kierros oli 53:s perättäinen jonka hän on pelannut alle parin tai pariin. Lähes kaikki kierrokset ovat PGA Champions Tourilta vuosilta 2022-2023 jaksossa, joka on tuottanut kuusi voittoa, näistä kaksi vuoden 2023 majoreissa.
Merkille pantavaa on, että Stricker rikkoi samalla Tiger Woodsin vuosina 2000-2001 tekemän entisen ennätyksen, 52 perättäistä kierrosta alle parin tai pariin.
Myös Woods voitti 52 kisan putkensa aikana kuusi kisaa.

Selvää toki on sekin, että Woodsin kierrostulokset ovat haastavampia PGA Tourilla pelattuina. Virallisissa tilastoissa Stricker on kuitenkin nyt ykkönen Champions Tourin menestyksillään.
Woods ja Stricker ovat myös hyviä ystäviä keskenään. Stricker oli yhdessä Jim Furykin kanssa Tigerin ”valittu” nelinpelipari Ryder Cupeissa sekä Presidents Cupeissa.
Kuin kohtalon ivaa on tätä taustaa vasten se, että Woods & Stricker hävisivät 2012 Ryder Cupissa kaikki kolme yhteistä otteluaan, molemmat vielä kaksinpelinsäkin.
Tämä jäi Strickerin viimeiseksi Ryder Cupiksi pelaajana.
