Pääkiertueiden yhteistyö syvenee: DP World Tour avasi portin PGA Tourilta putoaville pelaajille

PGA Tourilta pudonneet voivat saada pelioikeuden DP World Tourilta.
PGA Tourin ja DP World Tourin yhteistyö syvenee, kun pelaajaliikennettä tulee ensi kaudeksi myös Yhdysvalloista idän suuntaan.
Käytännössä kyse on siitä, että FedEx Cupin tämän syksyn rankingissa sijoille 126–200 jääneet pelaavat voivat saada halutessaan täysjäsenyyden DP World Tourille. FedEx Cup on PGA Tourin kokonaiskilpailu, ja sen 125 parasta pelaajaa uusii kortin maailman kovimmalla golfkiertueella.
Täysjäsenyyttä hakevat pelaajat saavat kiertueelle kategorian 12, joka on uusi kategoria DP World Tourilla. Nämä pelaajat eivät kuitenkaan voi valloittaa liikaa paikkoja DP World Tourin kisoista, sillä yhteen kilpailuun mahtuu kerrallaan mukaan vain viisi kategoriaan 12 kuuluvaa pelaajaa.
Kategoria 12 on kuitenkin varsin hyvä. Esimerkiksi Challenge Tourin rankingin 20 parasta pelaajaa saavat kategoria 14 ja DP World Tourin karsintojen parhaat kategoria 17. Sen sijaan PGA Tourin pudokkaat ovat kiertueen rahalistan perusteella pelioikeutensa uusivien takana (kategoria 10).
PGA Tourilta putoavan pelaaja pitää tehdä päätös DP World Tourin jäseniksi liittymisestä joulukuun 20. päivään mennessä osallistuakseen vuonna 2024 järjestettäviin turnauksiin. Mikäli PGA Tour -pelaajat haluavat päästä mukaan jo marras-joulukuussa pelattaviin DP World Tourin kilpailuihin, takaraja liittymiselle on jo kuukautta aiemmin.
DP World Tour julkisti tänään myös uuden liitännäisjäsenyyden PGA Tourin -pelaajille. Heitä ja ei-jäseniä varten luodaan oma Race-to-Dubai-ranking, jota kautta on mahdollista päästä mukaan kiertueen finaaliin sekä osaksi kiertueen rankingin perusteella jaettavia bonuksia.
Edellytyksenä tähän kuitenkin on se, että heidän pitää pelata neljä tai useampi DP World Tourin -turnaus, joihin ei lasketa major-turnauksia.
Mikäli PGA Tour -pelaaja on hakenut liitännäisjäsenyyttä, hänellä on tätä kautta mahdollisuus saada rankingin perusteella DP World Tourin täysjäsenyys seuraavalle kaudelle.
Vastaavasti DP World Tourin kautta on mahdollista edetä PGA Tourille, sillä DP World Tourin rankingin kymmenen parasta pelaajaa, joilla ei vielä ole osallistumisoikeutta jenkkitourille, saavat paikan PGA Tourilta. Tästä kiertueet kertoivat jo ennen tämän kauden alkua.
Esimerkiksi Sami Välimäki tavoittelee tätä reittiä pitkin paikkaa PGA Tourilta kauden kolmessa viimeisessä kilpailussa.
”Kun ilmoitimme strategisesta liittoutumisesta PGA Tourin kanssa marraskuussa 2021, yksi tärkeimmistä tavoitteista oli antaa mahdollisimman paljon mahdollisuuksia molempien kiertueiden jäsenille, ja tämä on jälleen yksi täydellinen esimerkki siitä, miten tämä toimii”, perusteli DP World Tourin turnauskomitean puheenjohtaja David Howell.
PGA Tourin syyskautta on vielä jäljellä puolen tusinaa kilpailua. Juuri nyt 125 heikommalla puolella listalla on sellaisia nimiä kuin Erik Van Rooyen, Lucas Herbert ja Matthias Schwabb, jotka ovat aiemmin pelanneet menestyksekkäästi DP World Tourilla.
Todellinen huippunimi 126 heikommalla puolella on Webb Simpson, jonka meriitit entisenä major- ja Players Championshipin voittajana ovat sitä luokkaa, että hänen tuskin tarvitsee lähteä hakemaan vauhtia uralleen vanhalta mantereelta.
