Matilda Castrenin caddiella aivoinfarkti: ”Oireita oli ollut jo puolitoista päivää”

Matilda Castrenin viikonvaihde Buick LPGA Shanghai -kilpailussa sai dramaattisen käänteen, kun hänen caddiensa Jonathan Scott sai aivoinfarktin lauantaina ennen kierroksen käynnistymistä ja joutui sairaalaan. Scottin tila on kuitenkin vakaa, eikä hän ole hengenvaarassa.
Matilda Castren kertoi lauantaiaamun tapahtumista kolmannen kierroksen jälkeen pelattuaan huipputuloksen (66,-6)
”Johnnylla oli ollut pieniä oireita, eikä hän niitä heti tunnistanut. Oireita oli ollut jo puolitoista päivää. Esimerkiksi koordinaatio oli ollut vähän heikkoa, pallot lensivät vähän mihin sattuu, kun hän heitti niitä minulle, ja puhe sammalsi. Lähetimme hänet sitten tänä aamuna sairaalaan, ja hänellä todettiin tällainen mini stroke, aivoinfakti.”
Castren suuntasi heti pelien päätyttyä sairaalaan tapaamaan Scottia, joka on ollut hänen caddiensa jo usean vuoden ajan.
”Olen menossa juuri katsomaan, mitä hänelle kuuluu. Johnny on muutaman päivän sairaalassa, mutta hänellä on kaikki hyvin. Katsotaan, miten asiat tästä jatkuvat”, Castren sanoi mietteliäänä.
Vaikka lauantaiaamu oli Scottin tapauksen myötä hurja, se ei näkynyt mitenkään negatiivisesti Castrenin otteissa kentällä.
Castren pelasi upean 66 lyönnin kierroksen, joka nosti hänet jakamaan 24. sijaa yhteistulokseen -5. Kilpailun kärkipaikkaa jakavat Angel Yin ja Maja Stark ovat tuloksessa -12.
Scottin poissaolon takia Castren joutui ennen kierrostaan etsimään itselleen uuden caddien, joka lopulta löytyi.
”Onneksi Jennifer Kupchon caddie oli paikalla, kun hänen vaimonsa pelaa täällä, mutta Kupcho pelaa vasta ensi viikolla. Hän lähti sitten minulle caddieksi.”
Päivän toiseksi parhaan kierrostuloksen pelannut Castren oli päivän päätteeksi äärimmäisen tyytyväinen esitykseensä kentällä.
”Peli kulki lopulta tosi hyvin. Huomasin kierroksen päätteeksi, että löin kaikki griinit. Lyöminen oli kyllä tosi hyvää. Olen tosi iloinen, että vaikka oli tosi stressaava aamu, niin kaikki kääntyi hyvin”, Castren kertoi seitsemän birdien päivän jälkeen.
Hyvistä asetelmista viimeiselle kierrokselle lähtevä Castren summasi päivän vielä nopeasti yhteen ennen kuin meni tapaamaan Scottia.
”Johnnylla on siis kaikki hyvin, ja peli kulki hyvin, niin minullakin on kaikki hyvin.”
