Tiger Woods osallistuu poikansa Charlien kanssa jo kolmatta kertaa perättäin kahden sukupolven PNC Championshipiin.
PNC Challenge on Floridassa pelattava kahden sukupolven välinen kilpailu, josta on kahden viime vuoden aikana tullut yksi loppukauden odotetuimmista turnauksista, kiitos Tiger ja Charlie Woodsin mukanaolon.
Eivätkä isä ja poika Woods pettäneet tänäkään vuonna, sillä he ovat ilmoittautuneet mukaan taistoon, johon pääsee mukaan ainostaan major-kisan voittajat perheenjäsenensä kanssa.
Viime vuonna kisan voittivat John Daly ja John Daly II. Woodsit sijoittuivat tiukassa taistossa toiseksi. Sitä ennen voiton veivät Justin ja Mike Thomas. Tuolloin Tiger ja Charlie sijoittuivat seitsemänneksi.
”Olemme odottaneet tätä viikko koko vuoden ajan ja on jälleen hienoa päästä pelaamaan yhdessä kolmas PNC Championship. Tämä on erityinen mahdollisuus isänä päästä mukaan kilpailemaan poikani kanssa niin montaa golfin suurnimeä ja heidän perheenjäseniään vastaan”, Woods kommentoi kilpailun virallisessa tiedotteessa.
”Viikosta tulee todella erityinen ja tiedän, että meillä tulee olemaan Charlien kanssa hineetä”, hän jatkoi.
Toivotaan, että kilpailu televisioitaisiin myös Suomessa, sillä etenkin hurmaavalla svingillä palloa lyövän Charlie Woodsin tekemistä on ollut ilo seurata. Kilpailu on ollut vuosittainen tarkistuspiste siihen, miten hänen pelinsä on kehittynyt. Kisan aikaan hän on 13-vuotias.
Mikäli Charlien peli on kehittynyt yhtä vauhdikkaasti kuin aikaisempina vuosina ja Tigerin paikat kestävät joulukuun ahkeran kisaamiseen, voidaan parivaljakkoa pitää kilpailun suurimpina ennakkosuosikkeina.
Tänä vuonna pelaajisto on todella mielenkiintoinen, sillä mukana sopiva sekoitus legendoja (Gary Player ja Lee Trevino, Annika Sörenstam, Nick Faldo ja Woods), nykyhuippuja (Justin Thomas, Matt Kuchar, Stewart Cink, Nelly Korda ja Jordan Spieth) ja Champions Tour -jyriä (Bernhard Langer, Padraig Harrinton ja Jim Furyk).
