Matias Honkalalla pysyi pallo hyvin hallussa navakassa tuulessa.
Matias Honkala lähtee Nordic Leaguen kauden toiseksi viimeiseen kilpailuun kärkipaikalta. 24-vuotias suomalainen pelasi torstaina päivän parhaan tuloksen ja nousi tulosluettelossa peräti 17 sijaa.
Honkala onnistui alittamaan tänään ainoana pelaajana 70 lyönnin rajan. Kovassa tuulessa ja vaikeaksi viritetyllä kentällä pelattua 69 lyönnin kierrosta voi pitää huippuluokan onnistumisena tärkeässä paikassa.
Honkalan tavoitteena on nousta rankingin yhdeksänneltä sijalta viiden parhaan joukkoon. Se toisi nykyistä paremman kategorian Challenge Tourille ensi vuodeksi.
Kilpailu pelataan Malmössä sijaitsevan The Nationalin (entinen PGA Sweden National) Links-kentällä, jossa Honkalan mukaan tuuli tänään noin 10 metriä sekunnissa ja puuskissa jopa 15 metriä sekunnissa.
”Oma peli ollut hallussa kelistä huolimatta. Olen lyönyt paljon hyviä avauksia, ja tänään oli vielä putti kohdillaan, niin sain kovan tuloksen aikaiseksi vaikeissa olosuhteissa”, Honkala kertoi GoGolfille.
Honkala yhteistulos on -2 (73-69). Hänellä on kaulaa toista sijaa jakavaan viiteen pelaajan ryhmään kaksi lyöntiä.
Honkalan kiikarissa ovat etenkin rankingin sijoilla 3, 4 ja 5 olevat pelaajat. Hänen kannaltaan tilanne näyttää siinäkin mielessä hyvältä, että esimerkiksi ranking-viitonen Tanskan Alexander Frances putosi tänään 28:nneksi.
Rankingissa kolmantena oleva Ruotsin Per Langfors on puolestaan ennen huomista päätöskierrosta jaetulla seitsemännellä sijalla ja ranking-nelonen Norjan Andreas Halvorsen jaetulla 11. sijalla.
Myös Rasmus Karlsson lukeutui tämän päivän onnistujiin. Finnish Tourin tämän vuoden ranking-ykkönen jäi Honkalasta tänään vain lyönnin ja on yhteistuloksessa +3 (77-70), mikä riittää jaettuun 15. sijaan.
Antti Ahokas jakaa viimeistä sijaa tuloksella +12 (76-80).
